How to iron on your name labels

Your labels are printed in full colour on DTF (direct-to-film) transfer film. Each label is pressed on once with heat, and then stays on through school-term washing.

You need

  • A household iron (no steam) or a heat press
  • Baking paper (parchment paper)
  • Sharp scissors
  • A hard, flat surface (not a soft ironing board)

Best on

  • Cotton, poly-cotton and polyester school wear
  • Shirts, jerseys, tracksuits, jackets, hats and sports kit
  • Not for very stretchy, waterproof or nylon fabric: test on a hidden spot first
  1. Cut out the label. Cut along the gap around each label, leaving a thin edge of clear film. Keep the clear film on.
  2. Prepare the clothing. The garment must be clean and dry. Lay it flat and press the spot for a few seconds to remove moisture and creases (for example inside the collar or on the care label area).
  3. Position the label. Place it printed side down on the fabric, clear film facing up, so the name reads correctly.
  4. Cover it. Lay a sheet of baking paper over the label.
  5. Press. Press straight down with firm, even pressure. Don't slide the iron around. Use the settings below.
  6. Let it cool, then peel. Let the label cool completely, then peel the clear film off slowly from one corner. If a corner lifts with the film, lay it back, cover with baking paper and press again for 10 seconds.
  7. Final press. Cover with baking paper and press once more for 5 seconds to set the print into the fabric.
Household ironMedium-high (cotton setting), steam off.
Press 10–30 seconds, firm and still.
Heat press150–160 °C, medium pressure.
Press 20–40 seconds.

Washing and care

A label lifting after washing usually needs a little more heat or pressure: cover with baking paper and press again for 10–15 seconds. Questions? WhatsApp us on 076 368 9039. We're happy to help.
